The activities I have shared below require minimal materials and low prep time.
I have compiled six different name activities that are play-based inspired. These activities were done by my 3-year-old son. I hope these name recognition activities inspire you to recreate at home for your child or create something of your own.

Name Activities for 3-year-olds
Cut and Glue Name Activity
This simple activity promotes and strengthens your child’s fine motor skills.
Materials Needed:
- Paper
- Marker
- Kids Scissors
- Glue
Steps on how to recreate:
- Write your child’s name.
- Draw the number of squares as the number of letters in their name.
- Cut out strips of paper.
- Write the letters in their name along with dashed lines.
- Provide scissors and glue.
The activity is ready to go! I did assist my child when it came to cutting the letters of his name out.

Car Name Activity
If your child is a car lover like mine. Here is a simple activity that includes their cars to learn their name.
Materials Needed:
- Paper
- Marker
- Dot Stickers
- Cars
Steps to recreate:
- Write their name on the paper.
- Draw lines to represent roads.
- Write letters in their name on the dot stickers.
- Place the stickers on the cars.
Now that the cars have the stickers on top. The activity is ready to go! Have your child park the car in the correct letter lane.

Dot the Letter Name Activity
This activity not only helps with letter recognition in their name but also helps with color recognition.
Materials Needed:
Steps to recreate:
- Write name on piece of paper
- Write letters in their name scattered around at the bottom of their name.
- Use the dot marker to dot a letter color key.
Now it is ready! Your child will find the letter in their name and match the color.
For example, I dot the letter A with a red dot marker, and my child will dot all the letter A’s with the red dot marker.


DIY Letter Roads Name Activity
Another activity for car lovers. Even if your child is not into cars but you have a little toy car, this helps learning their name.
Materials Needed:
Steps to recreate:
- Draw a letter in their name in a form of a road.
- Provide a car or a few.
Once it is done, your child can drive through the letter. You can make it into a phonics activity and have your child say the sound as they are driving through.


Stamp the Letters in My Name Activity
If you have letter stamps, this is a simple activity that can help your child learn the chronological order of the letters in their name.
Materials Needed:
Steps to recreate it:
- Write their name at the top of the paper.
- Draw squares.
- In the squares, write the letters in their name.
Now that it is ready. You can have your child stamp the letter in their name in chronological order. Keep it simple!

Circle the Letters in My Name Activity
Simple name activity that only requires two materials.
Materials Needed:
Steps to recreate:
- Write their name with different colored markers (letter key).
- Write letters in their name with a black marker (scattered around).
Provide your child with all the colors that you used to write their name at the top. Their name at the top is a color key for your child.
For example, the letter a is red in my child’s name, so he will circle all the a’s with a red marker.

Teaching your child their name does not have to be tedious! Keep it simple and use simple materials.
