As a homeschool mom, I am a big fan of MAGNA-TILES because they make a great open-ended toy for learning and independent play.

The 6 Activities that have been a favorite in our household are DIY Shape Matching Activity, DIY Color Matching, DIY Puzzle Activity, Build a City, Name Recognition Activity, and DIY Finish the Pattern Activity.

MAGNA-TILES Activities
1. DIY Shape Activity
Trace MAGNA-TILES on construction paper and cut the shapes out. Glue the shapes together to form a picture on white paper. Then, have your child use their MAGNA-TILES to match the tiles.
Supplies Needed:
- MAGNA-TILES
- White roll of paper
- Construction Paper
- Marker
- Scissors
- Glue
2. DIY Color Matching Activity
This is a simple one! If you have dotted colored stickers. Place the stickers on an object. Build a MAGNA-TILE base. Lastly, have your child match the object with the colored sticker to the correct color of the tile.

- Colored Circle Stickers
- Small Objects : I used Animals
3. DIY Puzzle Activity
Fun and engaging activity with MAGNA-TILES. I created a Valentine’s Day theme activity with cut-out hearts. I taped them to the MAGNA-TILES so my kids could piece the tiles together.
Supplies Needed:
- MAGNA-TILES
- Construction Paper
- Double sided tape
- Scissors
4. Build A City
Create a 2-D picture with a black marker so your child can match any colored MAGNA-TILE to the picture.
I created a city because my 3-year-old loves roads and playing with cars. But if you are teaching your child colors like I was. I color-coded the MAGNA-TILE buildings on the paper. Then, my 3-year-old would color-match the tile piece on the paper.

- White Paper Roll
- Markers
5. Name Recognition Activity
Create a play-based name recognition activity by writing your child’s name on the tiles.
Use a dry-erase marker to write your child’s name. Then, lay out the tiles with their name. Write the letters in their name on several tiles. Lastly, have them practice spelling their name.

6. DIY Finish the Pattern Activity
This is a great activity to help your child understand how patterns work. Create a pattern with 4 MAGNA-TILES. After, have your child add 2 to 3 more tiles to finish the pattern.
