There are days when I do not want to play with dolls or lay on the floor and play with cars. I love my kids, but sometimes I would rather do a different activity with them.
I have learned that kids want our undivided attention, meaning no phones or TVs turned on where it is just us and them with nothing in between. If you struggle to do bonding activities with your child, I have seven different activities I do with my children that you can try yourself.
Be in the moment and soak in family time.

- The Sneaky, Snacky Squirrel
- Pete the Cat Missing Cupcakes Board Game
Baking Together Once a Week
This can look like baking a treat once a week. An activity your children can look forward to every week.
Some treats my kids enjoy baking together:
- Chocolate Chip cookies
- Muffins
- Cupcakes
- A Cake
Painting
Watercolor painting is a favorite in our household. Everyone gets a blank watercolor art paper or a picture to color in.
Supplies we use:
- Watercolor White Paper
- Paint Brushes
- Water in a cup
- Napkins
Make it extra fun, put music on your phone, and paint together as a family.
Play-Doh Activities
Here are two ways we use Play-Doh as a bonding activity.
One Activity: You both can create something with Play-Doh. Once you are done creating, show your child your creation and ask them about theirs.
Second Activity: Create something together. Create an animal, build their name, or print out some Play-Doh mats and help them create.
Play-Doh mats can be found for FREE on TPT and Pinterest.
Create a Puzzle Together
If your children are ages four and older, there are plenty of puzzles you can create together.
Places I have shopped for affordable 24-48 puzzle piece sets Five Below, Walmart, and Target.
Reading Books Together
This is a special one for me. My kids love reading books. Reading to your child is an activity you can do at any time of the day. In the morning, after breakfast, before nap time, or before bed.
Coloring Activity
Coloring can be a great or a messy activity. It is not a favorite for my 4-year-old and 2-year-old. If my children request to color, I rip some coloring pages off a coloring book.
You can print coloring sheets for free on TPT or Pinterest.
We have these coloring pads from Melissa and Doug:
Everyone gets a coloring sheet, including mom and dad. Make it extra fun, put music on your phone, and color together as a family.
